IMPROVING LIVES

Registered Charity Number SCO28617

Welcome to the Thornton Rose Ride - Ability Group website. If you are a first time visitor, we hope you enjoy learning more about our group via this site. For those of our regular readers, pages have been updated and our fund raising ‘buy at’ site added.

Thornton Rose provides riding opportunities for people of all ages and disabilities to enjoy a safe, stimulating, therapeutic and recreational sport. The group was formed in 1984 under a previous name and established as Thornton Rose in 2004 when we relocated to Thornton Farm, Rosewell.

The group is a member of the Riding for the Disabled Association, where our vision is to improve the lives of people with disabilities through activities connected with horse riding.

We are a team of volunteers working hard towards a common goal, which is to provide disabled people with the means to ride at the level of their ability, choice and ambition.

Thornton Rose is a place for fun, friendship and learning in a safe environment. This includes our disabled riders, volunteers and even the ponies.
Sadly owing to the expansion of our group over the years we have outgrown the space and facilities afforded to us, with that in mind we are in the process of acquiring a lease on a neighbouring farm. The acquisition of Newbigging Farm would greatly enhance our operational capabilities. We are negotiating to have a purpose made enclosed indoor arena this would protect medically fragile riders from the elements. It would also allow us to extend our hours of operation and enable us to host our own events, competitions and open days.
